“Notice that autumn is more the season of the soul than of nature.”

— Friedrich Nietzsche

“The farther we’ve gotten from the magic and mystery of our past, the more we’ve come to need Halloween.”

— Paula Curan

The Lit Mag is getting into the spirit of the season with its first contest of the year! We are calling for works of art that reflect the fall season or the celebration of Samhain, All Hallows Eve, or as it’s better know — Halloween!!

Write from your own inspiration, or choose from one of the following prompts:

  • There is something in the kitchen that wasn’t there before, you live alone.
  • You never see it. Hear it, feel it, know it’s there, sure. But, you never see it. Even as it stares you dead in the eyes, you still fail to see that of which has been haunting you all of your life; that of which you can never run from, never knowing which direction it comes.

This month’s contest is open to ALL FORMS OF CREATIVE EXPRESSION from ALL DEL VAL STUDENTS, ALUMNI AND STAFF:

  • Poetry
  • Short Fiction (650 words or fewer)
  • Short Nonfiction/Personal Essay (650 words or fewer)
  • Photography
  • Other artistic expression (Painting, pencil sketches, pastels, watercolor, sculpture, ceramics, etc.)
  • Short film (5 minutes maximum)
  • Original music recordings, instrumental or vocal
  • Original dance performance recordings
  • Anything else that you see as an expression of your own creativity!

Winners will be chosen by the literary magazine staff, but all submissions will be published in our digital magazine!

Good luck!
