Kicking it off — December 2020
For our first monthly contest, and to wrap up the year that was 2020, our prompt borrows an idea from a recent The New York Times contest: a six word memoir. This is a VERY short form of creative writing made famous by publisher Larry Smith.
There is an apocryphal legend that, supposedly, “came from a ten-dollar bet Hemingway made at a lunch with some other writers that he could write a novel in six words. After penning the famous line on a napkin, he passed it around the table, and collected his winnings” (Jones).
His bet-winning story?
For sale, Baby shoes, Never worn.
The challenge, of course is to be as expressive as possible in as few words as possible. Up for it?
Prompt: Write a six-word memoir (that’s a story about your life that is true) that reflects your 2020. What will your six words be??
